Here is a list of races that
i would like to finish.
- Athens
Marathon : It’s every marathon runner’s dream (and definitely
mine) to run and finish the originally course from Marathonas to Athens.
According to history, after the battle against the Persian army, an
ancient Athenian soldier (Feidipidis) run along this trail (more or
less) in order to bring news of victory to the Athenians (and then died
of exhaustion). The same course was used for the marathon race in the
first Olympic games in 1896 that was won by a Greek water seller, Spiros
Luis. Every year more than 3 thousand athletes compete in this event.
- Olympus Marathon :
A grueling race of 42.192 meters, consisting of ascending and descending
the highest mountain of Greece, Olympus (best known as the home of Zeus
and the other ancient Greek gods).
- Euxideios Athlos : Based on historical facts, after the battle of
Plataies, a soldier (Euxidas) run more than 200 Km in order to fetch
the holy fire from the temple of Delphi back to Plataies. This race
of 107.5 Km, from Delphi to Plataies, pays tribute to the exploit of
this runner. This is a relatively new race taking place thanks to the
efforts of Mr. Antonopoulos.
- Spartathlon : It is probably
the most famous (and challenging) ultra-marathon race in Greece. The
runners start from Athens (close to Acropolis) and are expected to finish
in Sparta, thus covering 246 Km.
