Location Awareness & Public Safety

What is LAPS?

LAPS, Location Awareness and Public Safety, is an application for allocating and focusing location aware resources on a triggered location. It is a cost-effective solution for increasing incident awareness and information while decreasing and simplifying network management and maintainance. LAPS is scalable and provides a simple UI to provide location awareness to legacy cameras.

Impact on Public Safety

LAPS provides the tools necessary to streamline incident recognition, allocation of resources and resource response. This allows Public Safety to concentrate on analyzing incidents and getting the proper response out. Fast allocation and focusing of resources increases the amount of information that is recorded for playback; unmonitored cameras with a relevant perspective are brought into view; and mobile resources are quickly integrated into the network.

Toolset

LAPS provides two tools Console and Plotter for probing and managing the network. Console provides methods for querying the network and focusing cameras. Plotter is a novel tool for easily creating and maintaining sensor networks remotely through a simple 2-D interface.

Applicable Environments

LAPS was designed as a base level module that can be expanded for various uses or incorporated into other applications, such as MyeVyu.

  • Schools and Universities
  • Ports
  • Cities and Towns
  • Businesses and Government Campuses
  • Airports
  • Stadiums
  • High foot traffic areas
