First lecture

Today was the first lecture! The material coverage was fairly
informal and overview from the class. Note that none of the material
will be covered formally on exams unless explicitly noted: so don’t
worry too much about memorizing trivia about how compilers and
interpreters work!

Slides and supplementary material

  • Here is a link to the slides (HTML)

  • Here
is a link to slides from the spring semester’s course. There’s a
lot of good material there if you’re interested on expanding upon
    concepts we discussed.

We want to hit the ground running tomorrow, so try to get Ruby set up
tonight. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t, but we don’t
want that to lapse too far: the first project will start soon!

I put together a tutorial on setting up ruby, please let me know (via Piazza) if you have any
questions.
