THE WHO

Pete Townshend

• When Dave Gilmour was recording About Face (1984), he ran into Pete Townshend in the studio. Pete told Dave how much he enjoyed Dave's` first solo album and to let him know if he ever needed anything.

  By his own admission, Dave has always had problems with lyrics, so he phoned Pete and sent up the demo's for what would become Love On The Air and All Lovers Are Deranged, and Pete wrote lyrics for them.

• Pete also used Dave's music in White City Fighting from his White City album.

• David Gilmour guest starred on The Who's performance of Quadrophenia on The Prince's Trust benefit concert, June 29, 1996. Dave sang lead vocals in Dirty Jobs and played guitar on one more song.

• Jon Carin played keyboards throughout The Who's 1996 Quadrophenia tour. On June 29, 1996 he performed together with Dave Gilmour (see above).

• Ron Geesin helped Pete Townshend record his album Happy Birthday (Meher Baba).

  He also opened the show for The Who on a number of occasions.

• In January 10th, 1970 issue of Melody Maker's interview Roger Waters says about one of Black Sabbath's songs:

  ``Something Pete Townshend might have written - when he was four''

• In his November, 1992 Musician interview Roger Waters said:

  "I always question stuff I do. There's a moment after making a demo of a song and sticking it on in the car when I really get off on it, but it doesn't last very long. And then when it's in a finished record and you listen to it once or twice, it's there, but again, it doesn't last. I think it is in the nature of all people who do these things - in theLennon, the Dylan, the Pete Townshend manner, that come from the heart - that the gratification doesn't stay with you and you feel compelled to go start the process all over again."
