All Students December 15 Graduate Fellowships for STEM Diversity (GFSD) (US citizens only) - Formerly known as the National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC), was founded in 1989 “To increase the number of American citizens with graduate degrees in STEM fields, emphasizing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool.” Graduate Fellowships for STEM Diversity (GFSD) is a partnership between federal agencies & laboratories, industry, and higher education institutions.
First and Second Year Students October 12 Facebook Emerging Scholar Program Designed to support students from underrepresented minority groups to continue their PhD studies, pursue innovative research, and engage with the community.
First and Second Year Students October 18 NSF graduate research Fellowship For US citizens. Supports outstanding students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines pursuing research-based degrees at US institutions.
First and Second Year Students October 24 Hertz Foundation For US citizens. The Graduate Fellowship Award is merit-based, consisting of a cost-of-education allowance and a personal-support stipend.
First and Second Year Students October 31 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship For US citizens. Offered to those who have shown aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering.
First and Second Year Students November 1 Soros Fellowships for New Americans For permanent residents or naturalized citizens if born abroad, or children of naturalized parents if born here. Criteria include creativity, originality, initiative, and accomplishment.
First and Second Year Students November 2 NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunities (NSTRO23) For U.S. Citizens with ≤1 year of technical graduate studies and at least 1 year remaining (2 if PhD). Focus on research and development of innovative space technologies. Funding initially for 1 year with a $40k stipend.
First and Second Year Students November 13 National GEM Consortium Mission is to increase the participation of underrepresented groups (African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanic Americans) at master's and doctoral levels in engineering and science.
First and Second Year Students December 13 Ford Foundation For US citizens (predoctoral). Seeks to increase diversity of faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity. Also aims to maximize educational benefits of diversity.
First and Second Year Students April 30 ACM SIGHPC/Intel Computational & Data Science Fellowships Designed to increase diversity in data science and computational science. Aimed at women or students from backgrounds that haven't traditionally participated in computing. Open to students globally.

Second through Nth Year Students [TBA in Oct] nVidia Graduate Fellowship Provides funding to Ph.D. students researching graphics and high-performance computing industries and leveraging GPU power.

Second through Nth Year Students November 1 Cosmos Club Scholars Program Grants for specific research needs not covered by other funds. Excludes general financial support, tuition, and living expenses.

Google PhD Fellowship Recognizes outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science or related disciplines.
Second through Nth Year Students November 15 Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowship For students focusing on systems research. Preference for those with a desire to work in an industrial research lab and those researching innovative areas.
Second through Nth Year Students November 16 Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research Program Provides graduate dissertation/thesis research opportunities at DOE national laboratories.
Second through Nth Year Students December The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship (women only) Honors Anita Borg's memory and supports women in technology. Encourages women to excel in computing and become role models in the field.

Outstanding Graduate Assistant Awards

Graduate students must be currently enrolled master's or doctoral students holding at least a half-time graduate assistantship (TA, RA, or AA) for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. 
Second through Nth Year Students January DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (US citizens only) Supports research using high performance computing to understand the world and address complex problems like climate change and sustainable energy.

ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award Recognizes and encourages superior research and writing by doctoral candidates in computer science and engineering. Presented annually at the ACM Awards Banquet.

Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowships One-semester awards for outstanding doctoral students in final stages of writing their dissertation with support unrelated to their dissertation.
Finishing Students February 7 Lee Thornton Endowed Fellowship The Graduate School Dissertation Fellowships are one-semester fellowships that support University of Maryland doctoral candidates who have excellent qualifications and are in the latter stages of writing their dissertations. Eligible candidates must be advanced to candidacy by June 1, 2024, AND expect to graduate by August 2025.
