Collision Avoidance: RTS-CTS exchange

• CSMA/CA: explicit channel reservation

  • sender: send short RTS: request to send
  • receiver: reply with short CTS: clear to send

• CTS reserves channel for sender, notifying (possibly hidden) stations

• avoid hidden station collisions
