Please take a quick look at the following answers to FAQ before sending Prof. Abadi an email
- There is not, and has never been an internship program in Prof. Abadi's lab. The type of research done there is not amenable to short-term lab members such as interns.
- There are opportunities for undergraduates in Prof. Abadi's lab (assuming they can stay for an extended period --- i.e. not only during a summer). We value lab members from a diverse set of backgrounds. All students must take CMSC 624 before applying to join the lab. Although undergrads require permission to take that class, this permission is automatically granted to students that have taken CMSC 424 and received an A or A-. Good grades in other classes related to computer systems are usually sufficient as an alternative for those students who have not taken CMSC 424. However, there is no alternative to taking CMSC 624 --- this course must be taken prior to joining the lab.
- Prof. Abadi is not on the UMD CS graduate admissions committee this year. There is no way to become a PhD student in the lab unless you have already been admitted to the UMD CS program. Please do not email Prof. Abadi hoping to circumvent the PhD admissions process --- it simply does not work that way. Everybody must apply to the UMD PhD program first, and then join a specific lab only after being admitted to the PhD program.
- All applicants are welcome to express interest in working in Prof. Abadi's lab on their UMD CS PhD admissions application. There is no need to attain specific permission for this prior to applying.
