Leila De Floriani Named Eurographics Fellow
Professor Leila De Floriani was recently elected as the 2020 European Association for Computer Graphics Fellow for her outstanding contributions, leadership and service to the fields of Computer Graphics, Visualization and to the Eurographics Association in particular, and for her foundational contribution to starting up one of the most vital research communities in Geometry and Graphics in Italy.
A Fellow of IEEE and of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) as well as a Pioneer of the Solid Modeling Association, De Floriani’s research focuses on geometric modeling and processing, topology-based data visualization and topological data analysis.Her research has been funded by numerous national and international agencies, including the European Commission and the National Science Foundation.
She has served as an expert on the program committees of over 150 leading international conferences and is currently an associate editor of ACM Transactions on Spatial Algorithms and Systems, GeoInformatica, and Graphical Models.
Before joining University of Maryland, De Floriani held positions at the University of Genova (Italy), the University of Nebraska, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Italian National Research Council
2020 President of the IEEE Computer Society, De Floriani has authored over 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications in data visualization, geospatial data representation and processing, computer graphics, geometric modeling, shape analysis and understanding, garnering several best paper awards and invitations as a keynote speaker.
An affiliate professor Leila De Floriani holds joint appointment with the Department of Geographical Sciences and UMIACS.
