Affiliate Professor of Computer Science Leila De Floriani is President-Elect of IEEE-CS
Affiliate Professor of Computer Science Leila De Floriani has been elected the 2019 IEEE-CS President-Elect. De Floriani will be the president of the organization for one year starting in January in 2020.
De Floriani is a celebrated computer scientist known for her work in data visualization, geospatial data representation and processing, computer graphics, geometric modeling, and shape analysis and understanding. She is an IEEE Fellow, a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), and she is a Pioneer of the Solid Modeling Association. Since 2017, she has been a member of the Board of Governors for IEEE Computer Society.
She is the author of over 300 journal articles and conference papers and she has won several best paper awards. De Floriani currently serves as the associate editor of ACM Transactions of Spatial Algorithms and Systems, GeoInformatica, and Graphical Models.
In addition to her extensive research, De Floriani is a dedicated educator who is interested in inclusivity in computer science and opening up the field to more people. She plans to “enhance inclusiveness by increasing the diversity of our membership through outreach activities and the involvement of women and underrepresented groups, both as volunteers and in leadership positions in publications, conferences and CS governance.”
