The Victor Basili Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Victor Basili Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

What is The Victor Basili Postdoctoral Fellowship Program?

The Victor Basili Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the University of Maryland seeks talented, highly-motivated post-doctoral computer scientists to conduct research in the area of Applied Software Engineering and Programming Languages, broadly construed.

Hosted in the Computer Science Department of the University of Maryland, the Victor Basili Postdoctoral Fellowship Program will support multiple post-doctoral researchers for a 2-year period, with new positions opening each year.

This program's main goal is to help create a vibrant center of excellence and foster the development of early career scientists in Applied SE/PL at UMD. Therefore, each year the program will identify a cohort of early career software engineering researchers, bring them to UMD, and integrate them into our existing software engineering and programing languages research community.

The initiative's focus is on supporting high-quality research in trustworthy, correct, and reliable software applied to pressing societal problems. Given the rapid pace of change in software-enabled innovation, these terms must be interpreted broadly. Research topics supported by the program may encompass theory, models, tools, and processes used to create and deploy software. The possible application problem domains may be similarly broad, including (but not limited to) applications in mobile computing, health care informatics, Internet of Things, and smart manufacturing systems.

Each Basili Postdoctoral Fellow will be mentored by at least one UMD faculty member from the PL/SE group. Scholars are expected to spend the majority of their time developing their own research program and encouraged to leverage all the diverse strengths and resources of the existing PL/SE research environment at the University of Maryland.
