"Computer science is no more about computers
than astronomy is about telescopes."
-Edsger Dijkstra

Welcome! I'm William Bermudez, a Computer Science Major at the University of Maryland. Since I was little I've always had an aptitude for puzzle solving, so naturally my love for computer science and it's algorithmic complexities followed suit. It's this passion for coding and critical thinking that's led me to where I am today. I currently work in the Computer Science Department as a Systems Administrator, handling any software or server issues all across the department's faculty and staff. My interests lie in data science, programming design, video game development, and virtual reality.

About

Currently I'm a rising junior here at Maryland. I have a specialization in data science and am also planning to minor in Statistics.

As of summer 2016 I also work for the Department of Computer Science at UMD in the CS Staffworld Office as a Systems Administrator. I help monitor and maintain all the DNS and DHCP servers, as well as troubleshoot any IT issues the faculty/staff have.

My passion lies in data science, algorithms, and how to organize and design data efficiently. I hope to work in video game development in the future, but for now I'm broadening my horizons and seeking all the experience and knowledge I can get.

Experience/Skills

As of right now, I have around three years of experience coding. Languages that I'm most proficient in are Java and C, but I'm famililar with lots of other languages such as C#, C++, HTML, CSS, and Assembly. I have growing experience using both Windows and Unix systems, and know how to use software such as Microsoft Office, Unity3D, and GameMaker Studio. In the future I'll be taking courses to understand more languages such as Python, Ruby, OCamel, and Prolog. And I'll be learning more about other game development software such as Unreal Engine.

Projects/Works

  • The Dreamer's Guide: My Capstone Project for the DCC Honors Program, which is a virtual reality game demo that explores dreams and the psychoanalysis of choice.
  • The Taking of Sarah Grace: A small, text-based horror game I created when I first started learning Unity3D and C#. It's published on several flash game sites and has recieved a considerable amount of views.

Clubs/Organizations

Aside from my normal coursework, here are some organizations I'm a part of here at UMD!

  • UMD Game Developer Club

Being a part of the Game Developer Club, I get to collaborate and express game designs/ideas with people all across campus. It helped me get introduced to lots of game development tools and concepts.

  • DCC Honors Program

For the first two years of UMD I was in the Design | Cultures and Creativity Honors Program learning about multidisciplinary practices and how to design products to benefit the world.

  • UMD Mockappella

Two other passions of mine are music and comedy, so when I heard that my school had a comedic Acapella group I just had to join. Check us out on Youtube and Facebook!

  • Banneker/Key Scholars

Ranking within the top 1% of my class, I was admitted to UMD under a full scholarship and the Banneker/Key name. This society represents the best students UMD has to offer.
