THE INTERFACE OF THREE AREAS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
WITH THE MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
A
Workshop Sponsored by the National Academies and the National Science
Foundation,
April 28-29, 2000
Location:
National Academies' Cecil and Ida Green Building
Room 118
2001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.
Local information:
Directions from Hotels:
Most workshop attendees
are staying in the Hotel Sofitel at 1419 Connecticut Avenue, NW.
This hotel
is
near the Dupont Circle Metro station for those who like to get around
Washington
that way. We recommend taking a taxi between the hotel and the workshop,
which
will be held at the National Academies' Cecil and Ida Green Building (room
118),
at 2001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. It would take about 30
minutes
to walk from the hotel to the workshop: north on Connecticut to P Street,
west
on P Street to Wisconsin Ave., and north on Wisconsin Ave. to 2001.
Workshop
participants who are staying at the Holiday Inn-Georgetown are immediately
north
of the National Academies, and anyone staying at the Savoy Suites is about a
mile north on Wisconsin Ave.
Driving Directions:
The National Academies is about eight blocks north of the heart of Georgetown (M
Street
and Wisconsin Ave.), or about a mile north of the Potomac River.
If you're driving from Arlington, Virginia, you probably want to go across the
Key Bridge and turn right on M Street. Because it is not legal to turn left
onto Wisconsin Ave. from M Street, you should turn left on any of the numbered
streets that allow it, and use any convenient cross street (e.g., O Street or P
Street) to get to Wisconsin Ave. and continue north. The National Academies'
building will be on your right just past the large Safeway. Turn right onto
Whitehaven Street.
If you're coming from the Maryland part of the Washington Beltway (I-495), the
most direct route is to take the exit for Wisconsin Ave. (Rte. 355) southbound
and follow it about 6 miles until you get to 2001 Wisconsin Ave. The National
Academies' building will be on your left just after the Holiday Inn-Georgetown.
Turn left onto Whitehaven Street.
Parking:
Parking on Friday the 28th: once you're on Whitehaven Street, turn right into
the 2nd driveway and go down the ramp to underground parking. Visitors'
is at the bottom of the ramp. There is no charge, but you need to sign in at
the guard's station near the entrance. The guard can direct you to room
Green-118.
Parking on Saturday the 29th: once you're on Whitehaven Street, look for any
street parking. (The National Academies' garage will not be open.)
Check meter or parking restrictions.
If there's no room on Whitehaven Street, there will be space on the
streets on the other side of Wisconsin Ave.
