Recent Topics in Operating Systems Research

Overview
The goal of this seminar is to review hot topics in operating systems and
to identify promising directions for future research in the area. We will
discuss selected papers which were presented at premier OS conferences
in 2002 ( ASPLOS'02
, OSDI'02
FAST'03,
USITS'03
and Mobisys'03 ).
Prerequisite
Students should have taken an operating systems course (CMSC 412) and must
be familiar with basic concepts of computer architecture, networking and
distributed computing.
Expected Work
In addition to the readings and participation in discussions, all students
will be required to:

submit critiques of the papers being discussed each week.

prepare in-class presentations.

take final exam.

complete an individual or group project..
Grading
- paper presentations, critiques and in-class discussion: 25%
- project: 25%
- final exam: 50%
