Ontologies
Ontologies define the context and provide the vocabulary used to describe your web page with SHOE. Before you annotate your page with SHOE you must choose an ontology. This page can help you decide which of the most commonly used SHOE ontologies are right for you. If you cannot find a suitable ontology here, more ontologies are available from the SHOE research web site or you can create your own ontologies.
If you want to annotate your home page...
- Use the Personal Ontology, v.1.0.
- You may also want to use or create ontologies that describe your specific hobbies and interests.
- If you attend or work for a university, you may wish to also use the University Ontology, v.1.0.
If you want to describe your business or products on the Web...
- Use the Commerce Ontology, v.1.0.
- You may also want to use or create ontologies that describe your industry, products, or services in more detail.
If you are associated with a university and want to mark up the university, course, project or publication pages...
- Use the University Ontology, v.1.0.
If you want to provide general information about a topic not mentioned above...
- You may be able to use the General Ontology, v.1.0.
- Or you may need one of the additional SHOE ontologies or need to create an ontology of your own.
