IWSED-95: International Workshop on Software Engineering Data

IWSED-95 Questionnaire Goals

By Jyrki Kontio

The purpose of the IWSED-95 questionnaire was to make all participants aware of their data collection practices and collect some relevant data about the software measurement practices and how they utilize the data.

We have defined the goals of specific types of data questions in the following.

Defect Data Goals

Goal 1:

analyze the defect data collection practices of participating organizations
in order to characterize and compare them
with respect to the practices of other organizations
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

Goal 2:

analyze the type and content of defect data of participating organizations
in order to characterize and compare them
with respect to its utilization in project management, quality control, risk analysis and process improvement
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

Cost Data Goals

Goal 3:

analyze the cost data collection practices of participating organizations
in order to characterize and compare them
with respect to practices of other organizations
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

Goal 4:

analyze the type and content of the cost data of participating organizations
in order to characterize and compare them
with respect to utilizing this data in other organizations
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

Risk Management Goals

Goal 5:

analyze risk management practices of participating organizations
in order to characterize them
with respect to activities involved and what data is used
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

Goal 6:

analyze risk management practices of participating organizations
in order to characterize them
with respect to effectiveness to reducing projects risks or costs
from the viewpoint of organization management
in the context of software development

In other words, we are interested in finding out about risk management practices and what data is used in risk management. Any data about the project, product and about the development environment, including external factors such as market and technology changes, can be used for risk management.
