On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, Professor of Computer Science and Fraunhofer CESE Executive Director Adam Porter participated in a panel of thought leaders on the challenges and opportunities in implementing Industry 4.0--the next wave in smart manufacturing.
The “Future Impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on Maryland Manufacturing” (https://rmiofmaryland.com/maryland-manufacturers-insights/) was hosted by the Baltimore-based Regional Manufacturers’ Institute of Maryland (RMI). The panel attracted over 260 participants from the manufacturing community, government, non-profits, and the service sector. Other panelists included innovation leaders from manufacturers including Stanley Black & Decker, Lion Brothers, and Dunlop Boot. Leadership from the state-funded Technology Development Corporation and the Brown School of Business at Stevenson University also participated.
"Digital transformation trends, like Industry 4.0, mean that every company that grows, builds or sells anything must become a high tech company. Our software and systems research helps companies start this transition - by innovating new ideas and approaches, evaluating their effectiveness from both a business and technical perspective, and by implementing the most promising ideas and approaches in software systems," said Porter.
"Fraunhofer CESE continues to build partnerships with organizations including RMI to help Maryland manufacturers understand and implement Industry 4.0.," he continued.
Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering (CESE) conducts applied research to support the software-enabled innovations created by our customers in industry, government, and academia. Fraunhofer CESE develops and uses advanced, effective, and scalable approaches to software and systems engineering, delivers powerful testing and verification strategies and tools, and uses state-of-the-art measurement and analysis methods to support its customers' challenges.
Working closely with customers in the aerospace and medical industries, government agencies, research organizations, and universities; CESE evaluates, develops, and utilizes cutting-edge tools and technologies to support customer decision-making and implementation in systems, software, and acquisition areas. CESE provides critical skills and guidance that allows its customers to ensure the viability and reliability of their systems and software and enables them to identify and prevent security-related vulnerabilities. In addition to applied research, CESE also conducts innovative basic research projects under research grants funded by the government and other research institutions.
