JSR 166 (Concurrency utilities) was approved to proceed by the JCP a
few days ago. See
http://www.jcp.org/jsr/detail/166.jsp
In some senses it is a follow-on to JSR-133 (Memory model), but with
the goal of adding and improving JDK concurrency features rather than
fixing specs. The JSR expert group includes some frequent
contributors to the JMM list, including Josh Bloch, David Holmes, Joe
Bowbeer, and myself. While we plan to kee this "inner" group small so
as to productively create specs and code, there is now an associated
"outer" mailing list, for general discussion, at:
http://altair.cs.oswego.edu/mailman/listinfo/concurrency-interest
There's also an associated web page:
http://gee.cs.oswego.edu/dl/concurrency-interest/index.html
that links to a page with a more detailed description
of aims and scope:
